Pakistan’s military says it has successfully tested a short-range missile capable of carrying conventional and nuclear warheads.
Military spokesman Major General Athar Abbas said the Hatf IX (NASR) missile, test-launched on May 29, has a range of 60 kilometers.
It was the third time that Pakistan’s military has test-fired a missile since neighboring nuclear-armed rival India last month launched its new long-range Agni V missile, which India says is capable of hitting targets anywhere in China.
Pakistan’s arsenal of missiles is mainly aimed at India.
Pakistan and India have fought three wars, two over the disputed Himalayan region of Kashmir, since they gained independence in 1947.
The Pakistani military possesses short-, medium-, and long-range missiles.
