Patria to Integrate Finnish Air Defence and Surveillance System Projects

The Finnish Ministry of Defence has today announced the supplier of medium range air defence missile system to be the Norwegian-American Kongsberg-Raytheon. Medium range radars will be supplied and long-range radars modernised by the French Thales-Raytheon Systems Company. These projects will be realised together with Finnish industrial partners.

In the air defence missile project Patria is negotiating among other things of building the launchers and participating in the system integration. Through the industrial participation in the project’s realisation phase readiness for the domestic maintenance of the systems will be created.

The employment effect will be mainly in Patria’s Systems and Land & Armament Business Units in Tampere, Hämeenlinna and Sastamala. In addition, Patria and Kongsberg have agreed on certain other industrial participation due to enhance the Nordic cooperation and support export of Patria’s products.

In the radar projects Patria, together with its subcontractors, will realise the domestic participation through among other things significant part of the software design and equipment shelter rearmament and modifications. The work creates domestic readiness for maintenance and future development covering also the software.

The project’s employment effect in Patria’s Systems Business Unit is mainly in Tampere and Espoo. This project also further develops Patria as industrial competence centre of radars in Finland.

The combined employment effect of these programs to Patria and its subcontractors is estimated to be around 130 man-years, out of which 40 is directly related to software development.

Patria is a defence and aerospace group with international operations delivering its customers competitive solutions based on own specialist know-how and partnerships. Patria is owned by the State of Finland and the European Aeronautic Defence and Space Company EADS N.V.
