European Defence Agency, BRUSSELS: Plans to open up defence procurement in the European Union to more cross-border competition passed a crucial milestone today when EU governments approved a series of measures to support the voluntary Code of Conduct which will come into effect on 1 July.
The Steering Board of the European Defence Agency, meeting at the level of National Armaments Directors, agreed the principles and main features of an Electronic Bulletin Board to publicise contract opportunities and awards, and a system for monitoring and reporting how well the Code is working. It also gave provisional backing to a Code of Best Practice in the Supply Chain to help smaller companies.
