Boeing has introduced its Intelligent Sensor, a new camera system that provides defense and security customers with fully integrated video-processing capability. It is designed for high-performance, real-time imaging systems for which low size, weight and power are critical, such as security systems, perimeter defense, and surveillance on small unmanned aerial vehicles.

“Advanced video-processing capability and data analysis are critical parts of our customers’ current and future surveillance and tracking requirements,” said Mike Rinn, vice president and program director of Boeing Directed Energy Systems.

“Boeing is addressing this challenge with innovative and affordable solutions that can work seamlessly with a variety of electro-optical sensor systems on virtually any platform.”

Shown in live demonstrations at the Boeing Enduring Awareness Pavilion at the 2012 Farnborough International Airshow, the Boeing Intelligent Sensor is a medium-wavelength infrared (MWIR) camera system that allows users to perform real-time data analysis within the camera itself, eliminating the need for bulky external processing equipment. This reduces both download time and bandwidth requirements.

The Boeing Intelligent Sensor can be used as a standalone imaging system or as a component linked with other detectors and sensors. The system will enable customers to streamline their advanced imagery and video processing needs in order to perform a broad variety of data analysis, surveillance and tracking missions.

Boeing has demonstrated the Intelligent Sensor’s advanced capabilities in the field, in conjunction with a number of the company’s proven directed-energy technologies that offer real force protection on a variety of platforms for land, air and sea.

The Boeing Enduring Awareness Pavilion is an interactive destination for Farnborough Airshow visitors to experience the C4ISR-related technologies Boeing offers for a range of current and future awareness needs.

The pavilion’s capability “hubs” feature hands-on demonstrations, live data feeds from on-site tools, multimedia displays, models and proven technology to show the impact of real-time information on mission effectiveness and the flexibility of a spectrum of solutions. The pavilion also exemplifies how Boeing, through vertical integration of all aspects of C4ISR, provides customers with a seamless flow of information from collection to aggregation to analysis.
