Singapore Selects F110 to Power F-15 Fighter

GE Aviation, EVENDALE, OHIO: The government of Singapore has selected the GE F110 fighter engine to power 12 Boeing F-15SG aircraft, with options for an additional eight aircraft. Engine deliveries for the firm aircraft will occur in 2008-2009.

The F-15SG is an advanced version of the U.S. Air Force's F-15E Strike Eagle.

“We are thrilled with the engine selection,” said Al DiLibero, vice president of the F110 program at GE. “It will enable other militaries to better evaluate our engine's inherent operational advantages in powering new F-15s, and as a re-engining solution for mature F-15s in service.”

The Singapore selection of the F110-GE-129 (rated at 29,000 pounds thrust) is the second F-15 aircraft selection for the popular fighter engine. The Republic of Korea (ROKAF) selected the engine to power 40 F-15K Slam Eagle aircraft and took deliveries in October 2005.

The F110 is no stranger to the F-15. In 1999, the USAF completed a highly successful field service evaluation of the F110-GE-129 powering the F-15E, during which time the engine surpassed 1,900 engine flights hours on the aircraft. In fact, the USAF extended the program beyond the 1,000 hours originally envisioned due to the engine's remarkable performance and the high mission readiness rate of the aircraft/engine combination.

GE – Aviation, an operating unit of General Electric Company, is one of the world's leading manufacturers of jet engines for civil and military aircraft. GE also is a global provider of maintenance and support services for operators of GE jet engines.
