Raytheon Company, TEWKSBURY: Raytheon Company completed delivery of the CAC2S (Common Aviation Command and Control System) to the Marine Corps, celebrating the significant milestone at a product acceptance ceremony in San Diego.

Four nodes consisting of 15 shelters were formally delivered to Marines in San Diego following successful testing. Marines will use CAC2S to prepare for their operational assessment and operational test. The delivery follows a successful Product Acceptance Review (PAR) conducted in June.

“CAC2S is absolutely critical for our Marines as they move forward to realize their vision for advanced, integrated C2 capabilities in support of their expeditionary warfare mission,” said Rick Yuse, Raytheon Integrated Defense Systems (IDS), vice president of Integrated Air Defense. “This event marks the program's transition from Raytheon to Marine Corps CAC2S ownership and subsequent operational testing in the field.”

Raytheon IDS, prime systems integrator for CAC2S, worked closely with the Marine Corps to consolidate several existing, disparate air command and control systems' functionality into one common system. CAC2S leverages the Navy Ship Self Defense System MK 2 system architectural components and code to ensure CAC2S is the right product to provide the needed streamlined capabilities.

The CAC2S provides the Marine Corps with integrated hardware, software, equipment and facilities for command and control of Marine Air Ground Task Force air operations in joint and multinational theaters. The Raytheon IDS CAC2S is an expeditionary platform for integrating fires, maneuver and aviation with a single integrated air picture for air command, air support and air defense operations.

During formal qualification testing, CAC2S successfully integrated data from live sensors and data links, controlled aircraft engagements and exercised command and control in a challenging, rigorous, tactical scenario. The PAR verified system performance and provided authorization for Marine Corps acceptance of CAC2S.

Among the officials attending the CAC2S/Marine Corps Team celebration ceremony were Barry Dillon, executive director, Marine Corps Systems Command; Rob Leitner, director, Product Group 11, Marine Corps Systems Command; Marine Col. Steve Elkins, program manager, Marine Air Ground Task Force C2 Systems; and Raytheon's Yuse.

Integrated Defense Systems is Raytheon's leader in Joint Battlespace Integration providing affordable, integrated solutions to a strong international and domestic customer base, including the U.S. Missile Defense Agency and the U.S. armed forces. Raytheon Company, with 2005 sales of $21.9 billion, is an industry leader in defense and government electronics, space, information technology, technical services, and business and special mission aircraft. With headquarters in Waltham, Mass., Raytheon employs 80,000 people worldwide.
