Rafael Armament Development Authority, HAIFA, Israel: General Yiftach Ron-Tal, Commander of the IDF Ground Forces, General Udi Adam, Head of IDF Logistics and VADM (Res.) Yedidia Yaari, President and CEO of Rafael officially inaugurated the Wolf light armored vehicle into the service of the IDF at a ceremony that took place at Rafael on Thursday.

The Wolf is multi-purpose light armored vehicle built on the frame of a 4X4 commercial vehicle with an automatic gearbox. The armor envelope is built independently from the chassis, so it is possible to use the same armor envelope on another chassis (of the same model) when the chassis goes out of service. By modifying the interior section of the Wolf it is possible to change the function of the vehicle; i.e. to an ambulance, rescue vehicle, logistics or command vehicle.

The Wolf was developed by Rafael Armament Development Authority, whereas the Hatehof Company of Israel is the main sub-contractor for production.

The IDF ordered Wolf vehicles from Rafael in the amount of about $20M and the first vehicles will enter service within the next few days.

General Ron-Tal said that “the Wolf will replace current light vehicles such as the “Abir” and will be used for logistics and transporting soldiers, while providing a high level of protection to those traveling within.”

President and CEO of Rafael, VADM (res.) Yedidia Yaari stated that “Rafael, with its vast experience in all that is connected to Armor Protection, is taking advantage of that experience to supply vehicle protection to the IDF and other customers.” Rafael confirmed that several countries have shown interest in the Wolf and its variety of armor options.

Rafael designs, develops, manufactures and supplies a wide range of advanced defense systems for all branches of the military and homeland security forces. Tailored to its customer's specific needs, Rafael provides state-of-the-art, yet cost-effective systems and weapons in the fields of Missiles, Air Defense, Naval Systems, Target Acquisition, EW, C4ISR, Communication Networks, Data Links, Electro-Optic Payloads, Trainers and Simulators, Add-on Armor, Combat Vehicle Upgrading, Mine Field Breaching, Border and Coastal Protection Systems, UAVs and much more.
