Greetings all

I hail from sunny South Africa. I love all things strategy related and have played competitive chess from a young age. My interest expanded from there to include strategy games and military history. I am active on several other forums including military history forums. My brother pointed me in the direction of this place and it looks interesting.

See you on the boards

Hello Defense Talk Community,

I am a 62 year old retired wheat farmer from Montana, USA. During the 70’s I served in the 889th Supply and Service Co. US Army reserve unit. I was a payroll specialist, and was discharged with a ranking of Spec. 5.

I am very interested in the larger geo-political chess game being played out now on the Eurasian continent with regard to energy resources, and the various pipeline configurations required to access energy and bring it to market.

Welcome LogisticsGuy!

Just wondering ... how does a farmer retire?

I have been posting here now for a few weeks and should properly introduce myself.

I am a gentleman of middle years and a long term member of your Sister Site Sinodefenceforum and have served as a Mod there for nearly three years. I also run a specialist Chinese Geopolitical and Development analysis site called New Century China Institute for Global Strategy.

Obviously I have a special interest in China and the major organisations in which it is a key member, principally the SCO. My main intent is to present information from the Chinese SCO perspective, which can sometimes come as a shock to those who think that there is only a western perspective on major issues. I look forward to exchanging viewpoints with all other members that have an adult perspective.

Hi Sabre,
Well, just like any other businessman I guess. I sold my farming operations 4 years ago.
I am very happy being retired, I should have done it earlier. However, I am about as busy as ever, what with large scale gardening, and doing volunteer work with the local community garden project. I guess you can take the boy out of the country, etc.
Regards.

Ah! So thats how it goes :D

My family is into farming as well & we can't seem to retire. We just pass it on to the next generation after death but as long as we are breathing we prefer to take care of it.

That is why I found it odd when you said retired farmer.

Hi all

I have enjoyed reading posts in this forum for the last 6 months and have only recently decided to join.

I'm from Singapore and studied for my 2nd degree in the UK. In the late 1980's
I served in an infantry unit in the SAF and only recently completed my cycle. I am proud of my reserve unit, as we won the best unit competition twice.

Kind regards

Hi...and as I can't recall whether or not I've done this before...I'll do it again. I'm a Brit, but long-time Canadian resident; a former member of the Middlesex Regt. (now sadly defunct), and the British Army Intelligence Corps. I'm retired after a varied civvy career in the print and electronic news media as well as in what's euphemistically known as "government service". I was "schooled" in the US and the UK, and somewhat less formally at the Outward Bound Sea School in Aberdovey, N. Wales (had to get the plug in). I have spent some time wandering about in the North and South American continents, as well as in Europe. Favoured activities are fly fishing and continued efforts to maintain my unassailable position as the world's worst wingshot.

This is a truly great site.

Introduction (by someone not actually named Felix)

My name's Josh. I'm from BC, Canada. I have also lived in Ontario, Canada, and parts of England.
I work in computers, usually on contract work.
I have something of a fascination with certain areas of our technological development, particularly weaponry and military doctrine and training.
I also have an interest in human pyschology/sociology and the process by which these innovations are reached.
Like most of the planet, as awe inspiring as our military technological advancements have sometimes been, I dream of a world where there is no NEED for war, but know we do not live in that world, and likely never will.
I wholeheartedly support anyone who is out there risking their lives to make the world a better place, whether in a military capacity or otherwise.
My forum name, Felix Drake was a character in a role playing game. Through the quirks of life, it happened to get adopted as a convenient pseudonym that I have not once needed to put a number behind to get a unique login

Hello my name is Charles,

I am 42, Norwegian, and currently living in Iran where I work in the management of industrial manufacturing complexes.
I did 15 years of military service before retiring as a senior NCO.
Even if I did my service in the army (ground forces) my passion is aviation, and I am the holder of a commercial/IFR pilot’s license.

Hello everyone. I used to be under a different name here but I lost my password somehow and my e-mail got stolen so I had to start anew. Glad to be back and hopefully start some new conversations here. I have been serving the Army for about 6 years and am quite interested in military vehicles. Namely tanks, SAMs, attack helicopters and multiple rocket systems. :)

Belated Intro

Hi,

I've been following discussions and occasionally posting here for the last year or so.

I'm an 18 year veteran of the US Army & Army National Guard, where I have served in both infantry and armor, and I'm currently assigned as a Recruiting & Retention NCO for the Army National Guard. I'm a veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom and have also served in Germany, Korea, and the Balkans (FYROM).

I'm a bit of a military history & wargaming nut, and I am also a firearms & shooting enthusiast.

Thanks!

Adrian

Dear Adrian,

Welcome to the defence forums, from a fellow newbee here.

If you are not too busy, could you please share with us your thoughts with regards to the thread on Malaysian Army in the Land Forces/Army section. The thread is very long but I'm more interested in the discussion of Malaysia's purchase of the PT-91M tank from Poland (see from page 27 onwards)

Regards
