The ocean going research vessel, I suspect will replace the early vessels from Baruna Jaya research vessels. They are also build in France, alltough by CMN instead of Piriou. Still Piriou actually the one that have more exposures on research vessels (Ocean going and Coastal). Thus the choices understandable, as it is not first time being done.

We don't know yet the detail, the contract for KRI Canopus also build by Abeking-Rasmussen but they then sub contract the hull to local shipyard as part of Tech Transfer requairement. Besides outsourcing the hull to cheaper costs shipyard in Batam also reduce the costs from main supplier.

TNI-AL call it PKR (Guided Missile Destroyer Escort). So TNI-AL actualy until SIGMA PKR 105, still officialy not calling them as Frigate, but Destroyer Escort. Only recently until acquisition of PPA and FMP they are officialy call them Frigate and not DE. Thus PKR is not new term only to those SIGMA 10514 Light Frigate. It is actually TNI-AL official designation from frigate class vessels.

Similar thing with JMSDF, until Abukuma they still call this particular vessels class as DE. Only after Mogami introduction they call it back Frigate. Guess term of DE still officialy used at least by 2 Navy in Asia. Don't know any other navy that still call their Frigate as Destroyer Escort.

Japan defense minister Koizumi back to Jakarta again. Now asside talking to his Defense counterpart, he also got discussion time with Prabowo.

Like I said before, now what's important for Indonesia is the partner that can provide new (second hand) ready to use interim assets, and provide affordable financing for new assets.

the field of maritime security, they agreed to begin exploring new possibilities for cooperation, including the sharing of sensitive military information, such as maritime situations, mutual use of ports, and supply and repair cooperation. They also confirmed that they have begun discussions toward the concrete transfer of "Asagiri" class destroyers and other vessels under the new defense equipment transfer system. They agreed to cooperate toward realizing comprehensive cooperation, including education and training, maintenance and repair, and operations.

No additional information but more on confirmation the program moving forward. Koizumi clearly move under his Bos blessing, now his counterpart bring him to meet Prabowo to get his official backing.

Still not clear yet what other vessels that going to be transfered. However what seems clear thar Asagiri fall into 'grant scheme' catagory. While the others being speculate fall from 'discount' sale to new procurement.

There's one speculation that I heard on matter of Submarine. Indonesia PAL will handle Scorpene Evo while Republikorp Palindo with DRASS DGK. Thus to reach the target number some of Submarine need to be interim plus new order from foreign yards. Japan seems keen to provide this with interim Oyashio as interim until new build from Japan yards (base on their current specs) can be operational within a decade more. Well that's the speculation anyway.

The FMP second batch (#3 & #4) seems going to be contracted within this year according to PAL CEO. They will use same number of VLS but with different capabilities. Will this means the VLS is development of current batch MIDLAS or could it be Sylver just like in PPA ?
