General Dynamics,

St Petersburg FL: General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems, a business unit of General Dynamics, has been selected from an international field of competition as the manufacturer of the Unitary Warhead for the Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System (GMLRS) by the U.S. Army and Lockheed Martin.

The GMLRS Unitary Warhead program is currently in the system design and development phase, which will continue through 2007.

The GMLRS is an all-weather precision guided rocket that increases accuracy and reduces the number of rockets required to destroy a target. With the addition of the unitary warhead, the system offers high precision at a range of up to 70 km.

General Dynamics was responsible for the development of the GMLRS Unitary Warhead, and has recently produced urgent fielding requirements in support of OEF/OIF operations.

This contract includes options to supply the warhead for U.S. domestic requirements through fiscal year 2020. The GMLRS Unitary program will be managed out of the General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems' Precision Systems unit in Niceville, Fla.

“We are extremely pleased to be selected by Lockheed Martin and our U.S. Army customer to produce the Unitary Warhead for the GMLRS program,” said Dick Davitt, vice president and general manager of Precision Systems for General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems.

“This is a very significant win for our Niceville Operations and further enhances our position as the world's premier developer and producer of advanced warheads and payload systems.”

General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems is a world leader in the manufacture of large- and medium-caliber direct and indirect-fire munitions, bomb bodies and Ball Powder(r) propellant. The company also manufactures precision metal components; provides explosive load, assemble and pack services for a variety of munitions, tactical missile and rocket programs; and designs and produces shaped charge warheads and control actuator systems.
