, MUSCAT, Oman: The Ministry of Defence of the Sultanate of Oman have announced the signature of the 'Certificate of Final Acceptance' for a contract covering the expansion and modernization of EADS' existing Joint Command, Control, Communication, Computers & Information (C4I) system OFEQ2000 (OFEQ is Arabic for “dawn”).

The outline contract with the Ministry of Defence of the Sultanate of Oman, worth EUR 5.7 million, had been signed in mid-May 2006 and covers the expansion of EADS' existing OFEQ2000 Joint C4I system. The system is installed in the headquarters of Oman's Joint Air Force, Navy and Army, on land and sea.

The basis of OFEQ2000, initially installed by EADS for all branches of the Sultan of Oman Armed Forces (SAF) in 2001, is EADS' JoCCIS Joint Command, Control and Information System. An additional training system was delivered in 2004, and in 2005, EADS provided updates.

The contract modifications to OFEQ2000 include the expansion from five to a total of twelve headquarter stations of the armed forces and from 41 to 120 work positions, an update for the NATO Multilateral Interoperability Programme (MIP) Command & Control Information Exchange Data Model (C2IEDM), a replication of all operational data between the headquarters an MIP Data Exchange Mechanism, the enhancement of user management according to the NATO J1-J6 staffing standard and a general situation display in a Common Operations Picture which integrates air (Recognized Air Picture) and maritime situation (Recognized Maritime Picture) elements.

Together, these modifications provide the customer with an improved real-time decision making capability for their armed forces.

The deployment of OFEQ2000 in the Joint Exercise .Jeera Dazeera (Peninsula Shield)., in which all six Gulf states of the Gulf Cooperation Council are participating, provides an ideal opportunity to introduce the EADS system to the participating Gulf states in an operational environment. These states currently have been offered similar EADS systems based on JoCCIS.

Defence and Communications Systems (DCS) is the “Systems House” of EADS and an integrated part of the EADS Defence & Security Systems Division (DS). DS is a system solutions provider. It combines military air systems, missile systems, communications and intelligence systems, global security solutions as well as sensor and avionics systems into a single effective network. With 2005 revenues of EUR 5.6 billion, the Division employs 23,000.

EADS is a global leader in aerospace, defence and related services. In 2005, EADS generated revenues of EUR 34.2 billion and employed a workforce of about 113,000.
