, A British coroner has ruled that U.S. forces unlawfully shot and killed British journalist Terry Lloyd in the first days of the Iraq war.
The Oxfordshire Assistant Deputy Coroner Andrew Walker said Friday he will ask prosecutors to take steps to bring those responsible to justice.
The coroner's inquest concluded that Lloyd was killed when he was shot in the head by U.S. troops who opened fire on a civilian minibus transporting the reporter for medical treatment for another gunshot wound to his back.
The British coroner says he has no doubt it was an unlawful act by the American troops to fire on the minibus.
The incident happened in March 2003 outside the southern Iraq city of Basra.
A Lebanese interpreter Hussein Osman also was killed in the incident, and a French cameraman Fred Nerac is still missing and presumed dead.
The 50-year-old Lloyd was a veteran reporter for Britain's Independent Television News.
