Arabnews, An official source said that Tunis and Germany signed yesterday an agreement on military cooperation aimed at contributing to “establishing peace and security in the world.”

The agreement which was signed by the German minister of defense Peter Struck and his Tunisian counterpart Dali Jazi states in particular to exchange visits and expertise between the armies of the two countries especially in the technological fields, in rehabilitation, health, sport and military history as well as in intervention upon crises.

Earlier the two ministers held a meeting during which discussions dealt with various prospects of bilateral cooperation. They stressed their country's care to give their military cooperation an impetus forward that would enhance bilateral relations which are built on dialogue, consultation and reciprocated respect.

The German defense minister arrived on Wednesday evening in Tunisia in a visit for 24 hours. President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali is expected to meet with him. Berlin considered the visit as falling in the course of “the Mediterranean dialogue” started by NATO in 1994 between NATO member countries and seven Mediterranean countries which are Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Morocco, Mauritania and Tunisia.
