FRIEDRICHSHAFEN, Germany: Tognum subsidiary MTU Friedrichshafen has been awarded the order for the repowering of approximately 300 Saudi M113 type APC engines. Contractual partner is the Turkish defense engineering contractor FNSS Savunma Sistemleri A.S., who has been commissioned by the Saudi Forces with the modernization of roughly 300 of the 1,750 existing M113 APCs. The contractual value for MTU is approx. EUR 10 million, with the delivery of the engines scheduled for 2008 and 2009.

The Series 53T 6-cylinder engines were initially delivered by Tognum subsidiary MTU Detroit Diesel. They provide a power output of 260 kW (350 bhp), and more than 80,000 have so far been sold world-wide. They have been proving their ruggedness, reliability and ease of maintenance in military vehicles for more than five decades. Equipped with the latest engine technology, Series 53 even complies with the requirements of the 400 hour NATO test.

Tognum is one of the world’s leading suppliers of high-speed diesel engines and complete propulsion systems for ships and heavy land and rail vehicles, as well as industrial drive systems and decentralized power plants. These business operations are organized in two divisions: Engines and Onsite Energy Systems & Components. Sales of the Tognum Group amounted to more than EUR 2.8 billion in 2007. At the end of 2007, the Group employed approximately 8,200 personnel worldwide.
