Thales, Thales Australia has launched an Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) business unit to bring together its search and detect sensor devices with information management, analysis and exploitation software. This new business unit aims to be customer-focused with an engineering system-definition process, used in conjunction with business analysis, to derive agreed capability requirements at the outset.

Hosted within the Joint Systems Business Group, the new dedicated ISR capability seeks to assist commanders by providing the battlespace awareness necessary to successfully plan and conduct military operations. With a focus on fulfilling the requirements of Defence's Network-Centric Warfare approach, ISR will assist with the collection, processing, exploitation and dissemination of accurate and timely information from the field.

“The establishment of the dedicated ISR Systems business unit enhances Thales Australia's commitment to become the system-of-systems integrator of choice for the development, installation and through life support of innovative and effective defence capability solutions,” said Norman Gray, Managing Director, Thales Australia.

As a leading defence supplier in the global market, Thales has an extensive range of proven, in-service ISR products for sensors, information management and communications. This new business unit will draw on the global Thales network, in particular the UK and Europe, where a number of off-the-shelf solutions can be adapted to meet local ISR requirements. The suite of products includes radars, optronics and other sensors with customisable software for data management, analysis and dissemination.

Headquartered in Canberra, the ISR Systems business unit will utilise Thales' excellence in systems engineering, project management and though life support. It will complement Thales Australia's other business units covering Command and Control, Information Systems and Communications Systems to offer the full range of Network-Centric Warfare capability solutions.
