Tenix Aerospace and Defence, Tenix Aerospace and Defence, Melbourne, Australia, and L-3 Integrated Systems Group, a subsidiary of L-3 Communications, announced today the signing of a teaming agreement to submit a joint proposal to the Australian government for the Through Life Support (TLS) of the RAAF fleet of C-130J military transport aircraft. L-3 IS’s division, SPAR Aerospace Limited of Edmonton, Canada, will perform the work.

Tenix is the largest Australian-owned defence company and provides new platforms, capability upgrades and weapon systems through life support solutions to the Australian and regional defence sector. Tenix also provides commercial facilities and infrastructure development and support in the region. Tenix Aerospace & Defence is currently providing an Electronic Warfare Self Protection upgrade to the Australian Air Force C-130H fleet. Additionally, Tenix, in an alliance contract with the Commonwealth, provides through life support and capability upgrades for the RAAF AP-3C Orion aircraft fleet.

Ian Sharp, Executive General Manager, Tenix Aerospace and Defence said “The RAAF C-130J TLS project provides an opportunity to extend Tenix’s existing TLS contracts that include the AP-3C and ANZAC Frigates. We believe our expertise in Australian defence through life support, together with the complementary capabilities of L-3, who have adopted very innovative solutions to C-130 through life support requirements for operators around the world, will allow the team to develop and deliver a comprehensive value for money solution for the C-130J TLS”.

L-3 Integrated Systems Group has been in the C-130 business for more than 45 years and has experience in every facet of supporting the C-130, from conceptual design of large-scale avionics and structural modifications to providing all aspects of through life support services. A long list of past and current international customers have benefited from L-3’s C-130 expertise. Patrice Pelletier, President, L-3 SPAR Aerospace, said “The RAAF C-130J TLS is an opportunity to extend our global reach in the C-130 world. We look forward to working with Tenix to provide a team solution that will be both innovative and provide value for money to the RAAF. Tenix, an experienced, seasoned and capable Australian Defence Contractor with C-130 experience of its own, offers an excellent match with our capabilities”.

Tenix Aerospace and Defence have an unbroken chain of experience in the Australian aviation industry spanning six decades. The Aerospace Division was established in 1998 specifically to provide a support capability for Australian Defence Force (ADF) aircraft programs. Tenix Defence Aerospace Division is managed from Melbourne, and has its own hangar at Melbourne Airport. The Division also currently works on projects with the ADF on-site at RAAF Edinburgh, HMAS ALBATROSS at Nowra and RAAF Williamtown.

Selected by the New Zealand government because of its experience and innovative solutions for C-130 sustainment, the division is currently completing the prototype activity on an RNZAF C-130H which will be the most extensive life extension program undertaken on a C-130 aircraft fleet. It includes a new CNS/ATM suite, a GATM compliant cockpit solution, a EWSPS upgrade, a complete re-wire and a very extensive structural upgrade featuring a refurbished centre wing.

SPAR Aerospace, a division of L-3 Communication Integrated Systems Group, is one of Canada’s leading aerospace companies and is a Lockheed Martin approved C-130 Hercules aircraft service centre – the only one in North America outside of Lockheed Martin itself. L-3 SPAR’s headquarters are located in Edmonton, Alberta, with additional facilities in Trenton, Ontario and Venice, Italy. With approximately 600 employees across Canada, L-3 SPAR is a globally competitive market leader of MRO and Aircraft Life Extension Solutions for air mobility platforms.
