SELEX Sensors & Airborne Systems, Selex Sensors and Airborne Systems (S&AS) UK, a world leader of sensor and airborne systems for military and security platforms in the air, at sea and on land, will be displaying its unique Enhanced Vision System (EVS) at Paris 2007. Customers will be able to both view a core component of the EVS system and, see a demonstration for themselves of the image processing capability of the EVS system which offers the latest and most advanced enhanced situational awareness available to aircrew today.

The EVS is operationally proven with UK forces, is extremely adaptable and greatly improves mission effectiveness. Aircrew can view data either through a conventional head-down tactical display or by means of a suitable Helmet Mounted Display or Digital Night Vision Goggle incorporating a head tracking system where the imagery presented is registered and aligned to the user’s direct view of the outside world.

EVS is available for both fixed and rotary wing applications.

EVS is a modular, scalable and flexible integrated system. It brings together data from multi-waveband electro-optical sensors with optional navigation and terrain data. This provides pilots and other aircrew with a visual picture of the environment within which they are operating. It is an Open System architecture that may be configured to meet specific customer requirements.

EVS can accept input data and imagery from additional sensors including laser obstacle detectors or active/passive milli-metric sensors. This data can then be fused as either symbology or imagery to further enhance the user’s situational awareness.

From Standalone EVS through to integrated EVS systems, with Single or multiple user systems, this capability can utilise Image and Sensor Data Fusion to provide a Synthetic Vision System.

Key benefits:

– Multi-waveband, multi-arrays for optimal display under varying scene conditions, including near-infrared sensitivity
– Multiple independent display outputs for multiple users
– Addition of terrain overlays with ridgeline enhancement to further enhance situational awareness
– Operation with long-range surveillance turrets to provide a complete integrated surveillance and situational awareness solution
– Specific EVS implementations can be tailored to specific airframes and optimised for the operational role
– Available for both fixed and rotary wing applications

Chris Neale, Director of Capability said “We are extremely proud of our EVS system which has already been tested and proven by UK forces in challenging operational environments. EVS brings together some of our most advanced technologies and offers aircrew the best possible situational awareness available. We constantly aim to improve our sensor products and, with EVS, we believe that we can offer aircrews maximum advantage no matter where they go.”

Selex Sensors and Airborne Systems is a UK company with diverse capabilities in the field of Surveillance and Fire Control Radar, Electronic Self Protection and Targeting and Imagery across Air, Land and Sea. Selex S&AS currently employs 7,200 personnel worldwide.
