Saab, STOCKHOLM, Sweden: Saab Underwater Systems will upgrade all of the Royal Danish Navy's Double Eagle Systems. The order is, including options, worth more than 100 million Swedish kroner, and the procurer is the Naval Materiel Command Denmark, NMC.
The Double Eagle Systems are remotely operated underwater vehicles, and used by navies all over the world for mine hunting and other operations.

When it ordered the Double Eagle MkII systems in the mid 90ths, to be used from their Standard Flex ships, it was a break through for Saab, and the Danish navy's renewed confidence in us is a very important reference for the Double Eagle system. This order confirms the development potential of the system” says Mikael Grodzinsky, President of Saab Underwater Systems.
The Danish Navy has described the Double Eagle as “the ROVs Formula 1” and has decided to invest further to secure the system's cutting edge performance for many years ahead.
The contract includes upgrading of the electronic system and a new generation sensor systems. The upgraded Double Eagle systems will be prepared for SAROV configuration, which means that the vehicles can be operated as an Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV). “We are the world leader in remotely operated underwater vehicles for mine hunting, which entails localization, classification and destruction of naval mines. We have already delivered underwater vehicles to several navies and are currently delivering to Sweden, the Netherlands and Belgium.
This order is particularly important since the Royal Danish Navy and Saab agree to collaborate on future studies, development, tests and operational improvements of the Double Eagle System”, Mr Grodzinsky continues.
