MOSCOW: Saturn, a Russian engine maker, will present new-generation civil and military aircraft engines at the MAKS-2005 air show in Zhukovsky near Moscow on August 16-21, the company said Wednesday.
According to a Saturn news release, the company will present two projects, including a new SaM 146 engine for regional civilian aircraft and an engine for the Sukhoi family of military planes. Engines for the latter are designed for both current models and future prototypes.
“Both are fifth-generation engines,” Saturn's Director General Yury Lastochkin said in the release. “Saturn's exhibit will occupy a separate pavilion, where company's officials will hold news conferences on key aspects of future activities of the enterprise.”
“Domestic aircraft manufacturers must use recent changes effectively to achieve results that benefit the country and the society,” he said.
According to Lastochkin, priority projects are the key to accomplishing this goal. “We need to create a new aircraft manufacturing industry in the new Russia,” he said.
Speaking about the importance of MAKS-2005 for the Russian aircraft industry, Lastochkin said the show confirmed that Russia, despite all the problems, remained a country with a powerful aircraft industry. He added that it allowed Russian manufacturers to follow industry developments both in Russia and around the world.
