The meeting exchanged views on matters of bilateral importance and underscored the need for closer cooperation between the two friendly countries in the areas of common interest.

The Minister informed the envoy that Pakistan attaches great importance to its ties with China who is a time-tested friend and has always supported Pakistan in difficult times.

The Minister also highlighted the contribution made by China towards strengthening the defence industry of Pakistan particularly JF-17 Thunder Aircraft, Al-Khalid Tank and FP-22 Frigates for Pakistan Navy.

He told the Chinese Ambassador that it was the earnest desire of Pakistan to have friendly ties with its neighbors and wanted to have peace and stability in the region.

The Chinese ambassador congratulated the Minister upon assumption the charge of Ministry of Defence. He said that there existed a vast scope of cooperation in the areas of trade, economy and defence and the two countries needed to do more for further expanding the bilateral cooperation for the mutual benefits of the two sides.

The forthcoming visit of President Pervez Musharraf to China also came under discussion at the meeting. The envoy said that the visit was of vital importance as it would further reinforce the ties between the two neighboring countries.
