Eurotorp, The Australian Defence Force (ADF) will acquire production quantities of the MU90/IMPACT lightweight anti-submarine torpedoes following the signing on Wednesday 31st August of the Phase 3 Alliance Agreement with the French and Italian consortium, EuroTorp and the Australian based Thales Underwater Systems Pty Limited.

Project Djimindi replaces the ADF's current stock of lightweight anti-submarine torpedoes with the new generation MU90/ IMPACT Lightweight Torpedo. The MU90/ IMPACT Lightweight Torpedo, developed by EuroTorp, will counter current and future submarine threats. It is effective in both shallow and deep water, regardless of the countermeasures deployed.

Project Djimindi is the first Alliance partnership undertaken by the Defence Materiel Organisation. Project Djimindi Phase 3 will complete the initial production of warshot weapons with significant manufacture of the torpedoes taking place in Australia, including the final torpedo assembly and testing by a joint Industry / Commonwealth team at the Torpedo Maintenance Facility Fleet Base West.

The manufacture and integration of the torpedoes in Australia by Thales Underwater Systems and Eurotorp Australian sub-contractors enables significant opportunities for Australian industry.

The MU90/IMPACT Lightweight Torpedo can be launched by surface vessels, missiles, helicopters and maritime patrol aircraft and is fully compatible with existing lightweight torpedo launch and control systems.

The MU90/IMPACT will be integrated into the combat systems of the FFG and ANZAC class frigates, and eventually the Orion AP-3C maritime patrol aircraft and the Seahawk and Seasprite helicopters.

The MU90/IMPACT Lightweight Torpedo is currently entering service with the French, Italian, German, Danish and Polish Defence Forces.

The Director General Guided Weapons and Explosive Ordnance Commodore Peter Law said at the contract signature
