Canadian Department of National Defence, OTTAWA: Today the Minister of National Defence Bill Graham, Minister of the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency Joseph McGuire, and Minister of Fisheries and Oceans Geoff Regan, announced commitments to on-going foreign military training equipment and marketing investments at CFB Goose Bay, to create a Goose Bay Diversification Fund (GBDF) and to modernize the civilian terminal at Goose Bay.
As well, the Government plans to increase aerial surveillance to support Canadian sovereignty and security, and enhance the presence of the Canadian Coast Guard in the waters off Labrador.
The Government will invest $30 million, including $25 million for two portable, truck-mounted threat emitters and up to 40 Air Combat Manoeuvring Instrumented (ACMI) pods, and $5 million over five years for marketing initiatives for the base.
