Although wiki posts have indicated the AT-4 and CR90 in service, I have no independent confirmation (incl sipri & UN) of such purchases ever occuring.
Well, I don't have info about the AT-4, but Instalaza reported to the Spanish Authorities the sold of the C-90s to Malaysia years ago.

Here you have a pair of visual proofs of the C-90s in service with the Malaysian Army:

Hi and welcome to the forum.
Hello, and thank you :)

I think AT-4 might be a mistake by somebody who saw the C-90 and confused it with the AT-4. They look quite similar.
And Wikipedia, i don't know, especially in articles about military stuff there are often wrong informations. The fact that everybody can write there is more of a disadvantage sometimes.
In the photos from the parade, what is it that the guys behind the C-90's carry? Looks like RPG-7s without warheads or s.th. like that

I got bored and did a little compilation.

Its from various sources, reliables and non-reliables. It was pretty confusing since most of the informations are on grey areas, but the camps location, I did some double checking.

Figured I throw it out and see if anyone can pick up any corrections along the way!

Armed Forces Eyeing Cruise Missiles

KUALA LUMPUR, July 4 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) plans to acquire long-range cruise missiles, Deputy Defence Minister Datuk Zainal Abidin Zin said.

However, he said, the purchase would take into account the government's financial position and sensitivities of neighbouring countries.

"ATM has both short and long-term planning to enhance its fire power through the acquisition of high-tech weapons," he told the Dewan Rakyat today when replying to Datuk Dr Marcus Mojigoh (BN-Putatan) during question time.

He said ATM would take delivery of rocket launchers, PT91 battle tanks, Sukhoi SU-30MKM fighter jets, Batch 2 frigates and Scorpene submarines.

Zainal Abidin said the government was satisfied with ATM's arsenal meant to defend the country.

Responding to Datuk Zaid Ibrahim (BN-Kota Baharu), he said it was important to nurture knowledgeable human capital before the country could manufacture high-tech weapons.

This, he said, was being done through the establishment of the National Defence University.

Well given the budget in the 9th Msia Plan totalling approximately USD5.47 billion for defence has pretty much dried up, seems pretty unlikely for this fiscal budget.

BrahMos my bet.

company sized formation is usually commanded by a Major with...
A company in most of the worlds armies is lead by a captain. I think it's the same in Malaysia.

----------

Are there exact informations about the order of battle on platoon level? In Germany for example a platoon of Panzergrenadiere (mechanized infantry) consists of 4 Marder IFV, each with a crew of 3+6. The 6 infantry men of the 1st Vehicle consist of squad leader with G36, 1 platoon sniper w. G22, 1 sniper observer w. G36 and 3 troops w. G36, the second vehicle of Squad leader, GPMG-gunner, MILAN-ATGW gunner etc. (if exact informations are wanted, I can give them, they're not confidential).

Are such informations publicly available for the Malaysian Army or are they confidential? :)

why brahmos brother ??

my bet is on the ONYX cruise-missiles which r very similar to the brahmos & yet cheaper.

i think russia is already in talks with malaysia to sell the ONYX.

also remember that pakistan is eyeing malaysia as an arms export target. Pakistan will push for it's own, babur cruise missiles, iam sure.

also the naval-scalp is an possible alternative option.

cheers

Thanks for the info:) But as far as information is concern, in Malaysia it is usually commanded by a Major and 'sometimes' by a Captain. I know it is weird.

Another Question:
What will happen to the Scorpions if the PT-91M has reached fully operational status? The PT-91M will go to the 11 KAD, which is at the moment equipped with the Scorpion 90. One squadron of Scorpions is attached to 10 Para Brigade as air transportable Light tank, a role in which the PT-91M cannot replace it. But will the other Scorpions be shifted out of service, or will they be given to one of the other KAD battalions to replace or complement the SIBMAS 90 AFSV? I heard the SIBMAS are in a very low operational level, with about half of them not in active service but being cannibalized for spare parts to keep the other half running.

88 (186 but Dec’06 reported cannibalisation of spare parts.)
Sibmas 90 Armoured Fire Support Vehicles.

This is the info i got.

It is very unlikely IMHO for MAF to phase out Scorpions anytime soon, even with MAF eyeing 100 more MBT to complete its formation, it is far from materializing considering its "to-buy-list".

MAF is definately looking also to replace its SIBMAS and Condor (death trap) fleets but not in any immediate future considering its inventory size. I think MAF is looking to mechanised more brigades. Prolly we will see something in 12th Malaysian Plan onwards or so.

Prolly someone could shed some light even to myself. Cheers

Thanks for the info. So 88 Sibmas still in service...

Your estimation therefore is that the Scorpions will be given from 11 KAD to one of the other 4 KAD battalions where they'll fulfill a role similar to that of the SIBMAS (minus the troop transport capability), am I right?

On the other hand, MAF only has 26 SIBMAS (Edit: Scorpions, of course). An estimated 4 or them are in the 10th Para Armoured Squadron (+ maybe 1 or 2 backup / compensation vehicles), so the other ~20 vehicles won't even be enough to equip a full bataillon. In any case not nearly enough to replace all the SIBMAS of one complete batallion. Sounds like mixed Scorpion / Sibmas batallion in the near future.

Whoops, yeah, little mistake in writing there.
Replace the 26 SIBMAS with 26 Scorpions, then it fits :)

Well, what I wanted to say at all: The KAD consists of five batallions. Four of them are equipped with Sibmas, one is equipped with Scorpions. The one that has Scorpions will get the PT-91M. So I suppose the leftover Scorpions will go to one of the other four, where it complements the Sibmas. Then at least one bataillon can meet the strength it is supposed to have on paper.

All RMAF Aircraft To Be Fixed With Beacon Device

TUMPAT, July 20 (Bernama) -- All Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) aircraft will be fixed with a beacon device to determine aircraft location, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said.

Najib, who is also Defence Minister, said this could be done as the device was not expensive.

"I have instructed the RMAF to fix the beacon device on all its aircraft," he told reporters after opening the Tumpat Umno divisional delegates' meeting here today.

Najib was asked to comment on the suggestion by Barisan Nasional Backbenchers Club acting chairman, Datuk Raja Ahmad Zainuddin Raja Omar to set up a special search and rescue (SAR) operation team like the Special Malaysia Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team (SMART) to expedite operations following Friday's RMAF Nuri helicopter crash, not far from the Genting Sempah tunnel, Genting Highlands.

All the six crew members were killed in the crash and the Nuri wreckage was found the following Tuesday while the operation to retrieve all the dead bodies ended only yesterday.

Those killed were pilot Kapt Nor Azlan Termuzi, co-pilot Kapt Nor Intan Asykeen Mohd Arof, air quartermaster Sjn Khunizaim Ariffin, Sjn Mohd Azmie Md Yassin, senior airman Saifulizam Alias and airman Muhammad Ridzuan Ahmad.

On the RMAF's newly purchased aircraft, Najib said they all came with the beacon device.

"The old aircraft do not have the device, including the Nuri helicopters, and they will be fixed with one while waiting for the arrival of new helicopters to replace them.

"It is only apt that in peace time that all the aircraft have the device to indicate their location when there's a crash.

"But when there's war, you don't need it as your enemy will know your aircraft's location.

"No matter how sophisticated the SAR operation equipment is, the mission will still be difficult without the beacon device coupled with a difficult topography like dense forest and steep slopes, and bad weather."

On the issue of the Election Commission suggesting that only voters with the new identity card, MyKad would be allowed to vote, Najib said the matter was still being thought about by the government before gazetting it.

"According to the Federal Constitution, all citizens of eligible age have the right to vote, and hence the (EC's) suggestion could raise issues on a fundamental right," he added.

The CAD IDEALLY would have an armoured brigade (1st Brigade), a mechanized infantry brigade (4th Brigade) and a motorized infantry brigade (7th Brigade). The final composition of 1st Armoured Brigade is 2 tank regiments and a mechanized battalion. most likely it would go there.
