Warsaw, Poland: Poland will spend 3.71 billion zlotys (976 million euros, 1.16 billion dollars) this year on military equipment, up 6.5 percent on 2005, the Defence Ministry said Wednesday.
“The main aim of this expenditure is to improve command systems, to further integrate detection and electronic combat systems with those of NATO and to increase transport capacities,” deputy Defence Minister Marek Zajakala told reporters.
This year Poland will take delivery of eight F-16 warplanes, out of a total of 48 ordered from Lockheed Martin, 144 troop transport vehicles produced by Finland's AMV Patria, out of 690 ordered, 32 rocket-launchers and 200 Israeli-designed SPIKE anti-tank missiles.
