Archbald PA: Lockheed Martin received a $15.6 million contract to produce paveway II Enhanced Laser Guided Training Rounds (ELGTR) for the U.S. Navy. This award is for the first year of a planned three-year procurement that will maintain continuous production on the ELGTR, with work under this contract beginning in the third quarter of 2011 at Lockheed Martin’s Archbald, PA, operation.

“The Lockheed Martin team is focused on providing the most accurate and affordable precision engagement training munitions to our customers,” said Joe Serra, senior manager for Precision Guided Systems at Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control. “Our team is committed to continue to provide the Warfighter with the only live-fire paveway II training solution.”

“The ELGTR is a vital part of keeping the Warfighter operational,” said Capt. Carl Chebi, PMA-201 Precision Strike Weapons program manager.

“It is a reliable and cost-effective tool that enables our aircrews to efficiently train for and maintain combat readiness.”

Earlier this year, Lockheed Martin celebrated a production milestone with the delivery of the 100,000th ELGTR. Lockheed Martin has produced the ELGTR for the U.S. Navy and international customers since 1992.

The ELGTR is recognized worldwide as the only live-fire training solution for Warfighters and is compatible with F/A-18, AV-8B, F-16 and multiple international aircraft. ELGTR provides cost-effective training for all paveway II laser guided weapons, maintaining aircrew proficiency without depleting the paveway II Laser Guided Bomb (LGB) tactical inventory.

The ELGTR emulates the release envelope, flight characteristics and accuracy of paveway II laser guided weapons. Live-fire training permits aircrews to practice delivery tactics in a real-mission environment and experience actual weapon characteristics within today’s range limitations.

In addition to the paveway II ELGTR, Lockheed Martin’s 350,000-square foot production facility in Northeastern Pennsylvania designs and manufactures paveway II Plus LGB kits, paveway II Dual Mode Laser Guided Bomb kits and specialized instrumentation and control systems. The facility also provides manufacturing services, such as state-of-the-art metal crafting and electro-mechanical assemblies.
