Lockheed Martin Delivers Time-Sensitive, Target-Prosecution System

Lockheed Martin,

Reduces from hours to minutes the time needed to prosecute targets

CHERRY HILL, N.J.: Lockheed Martin successfully developed and delivered to Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) a software suite that dramatically reduces the time an Air Operations Center (AOC) needs to prosecute time-sensitive targets.

Called the Time-sensitive Target Dynamic Decision Enabler (TDDE), the software effectively deals with the flood of data that can overwhelm AOC decision-makers, such as the Dynamic Target Cell Chief, and that thwarts their ability to quickly and efficiently track, assess, and prosecute immediate threats. The current process can take 30 minutes to a few hours. TDDE has demonstrated that it can reduce that time to two minutes or less

Led by Lockheed Martin Advanced Technology Laboratories (ATL), the TDDE effort integrated knowledge-based techniques, intelligent software agents, and enterprise-based retrieval services to coalesce and reduce data and then recommend prosecution actions to decision makers.

“We fully met our customer expectations,” said Bill Ratliff, ATL's TDDE program manager. “TDDE delivers a revolutionary time-sensitive, target-prosecution capability that reduces strike/no-strike decision to single minutes with greatly reduced staffing.”

Lockheed Martin's transition of TDDE follows a successful demonstration to AFRL, where it simulated several prosecution scenarios while fully integrated with the Theater Battle Management Core System and the Joint Weather Information System. The demonstration concluded a two-year, $1.1-million follow-on contract. The follow-on extended ATL's earlier work with AFRL engineers designing and developing a TDDE application that used rules of engagement, criteria for target validation, estimates of collateral damage, and threat effects to automatically recommend courses.

Lockheed Martin ATL provided systems integration and Lockheed Martin Information Systems & Global Services provided software and engineering support.
