Improving Defence Contractor Performance

Australian Department of Defense,

Greg Combet, Parliamentary Secretary for Defence Procurement, today announced that the DMO will release information to leading defence contractors designed to help them benchmark their performance as suppliers to the Australian Defence Force (ADF).

The reports, produced as part of the Defence Materiel Organisation’s (DMO) Company Scorecard program, compare the performance of suppliers in delivery and support of military equipment.

In previous years industry has received a basic summary of their performance. This year marks the first time that a comprehensive summary benchmarking individual companies against other suppliers has been supplied

“Continual benchmarking is one way to improve industry performance. Companies who perform well have a huge impact on the defence industry and its ability to cost effectively support the ADF,” Mr Combet said.

“Performance benchmarking is an important ingredient for improving productivity and internationally competitive.”

The Company ScoreCards program evaluates the performance of DMO contractors on all major projects against 11 criteria including adherence to contract cost, schedule and technical requirements. A distinguishing feature of the program is that it permits companies to review their performance record prior to data being finalised.

ScoreCards Benchmark reports will be issued to around 100 companies this month, including all leading prime contractors and substantial numbers of small-medium sized enterprises. The documents indicate how each company has performed relative to others working in similar technology over the past three years.

“This is the first time the reports and this information have been issued to the companies. It is hoped that these reports will help companies improve their project outcomes through benchmarking. Program participants will now receive updated Company Scorecards Benchmarking reports in December each year,” Mr Combet said.
