Eurocopter, MARIGNANE, France: Eurocopter presents its advanced multi-role combat helicopter Tiger in UHT version at ILA air show in Berlin.

In present and future military scenarios military helicopters with multi-functional capabilities play a central role in air-mechanisation of ground forces. The Tiger is the only combat helicopter in its class designed to meet scenarios and mission requirements of the 21st century.

The Franco-German combat helicopter Tiger – designed and built by Eurocopter – is prepared for a multitude of present and future scenarios, which take into account every foreseeable evolution in combat capabilities. With the UHT version of the Tiger, the German Army gets the currently most modern combat support helicopter in the market, covering a wide range of mission scenarios from armed reconnaissance to combat support due to its sensor technology (infrared)and multi-weapon capability (Missiles HOT, TRIGAT, Stinger plus unguided rockets plus machine gun)

In service with German Armed Forces

The German Tiger version UHT presented at ILA 2006 is in operation with the German Army. A total of five Tiger UHTs are delivered so far. The first serial UH Tiger was handed over to the German Army on April 6, 2005, where it immediately entered into service at the Franco-German Pilot school at Le Luc in the South of France. Thus, an important milestone in the process of a successive build up of air-mechanized forces in the German Army could be achieved already last year.

By May 2006, a total of five German Tigers are operated in Le Luc. Another UHT has already been delivered in 2003 to the Franco-German Tiger technical school at Fassberg, Germany, for the training of Tiger mechanics.

So far, four countries have ordered a total of 206 Tiger helicopters. Germany and France count for 80 aircraft each, Australia ordered 22 (ARH) and Spain ordered 24(HAD).

Eurocopter is a wholly-owned subsidiary of EADS. EADS is a global leader in aerospace, defence and related services. In 2005, EADS generated revenues of EUR 34.2 billion and employed a workforce of about 113,000. The EADS Group includes the aircraft manufacturer Airbus, the world's largest helicopter supplier Eurocopter and the joint venture MBDA, the international leader in missile systems. EADS is the major partner in the Eurofighter consortium, is the prime contractor for the Ariane launcher, develops the A400M military transport aircraft and is the largest industrial partner for the European satellite navigation system Galileo.
