Officials said the lines would ensure the production and assembly of engine components and engines for a range of ground force vehicles. They said the production would replace the import of unspecified components.
In October, Egyptian Prime Minister Atef Obeid visited the new lines at the Helwan Diesel Engines Co. The company is state-owned firm and part of the National Organization for Military Production.
The National Organization for Military Production oversees 16 military factories, of which 14 produce civilian goods and military equipment. Officials said the plants have sought licensing agreements with firms from China and other foreign countries to improve production and export capabilities.
