Raytheon, TEWKSBURY: Raytheon reports the successful completion of two significant events for the DDG 1000 Zumwalt Class Destroyer Program: the third Quarterly Technical Assessment (QTA) and the Detail Design and Integration (DDI) Integrated Baseline Review (IBR), both conducted at the DDG 1000 Collaboration Center in Washington, D.C.

Results of the program's third QTA clearly demonstrated that the detail design is progressing on plan to the U.S. Navy's satisfaction. In particular, the QTA reviewed and assessed the following major DDG 1000 design and development categories: System Integration, Ship Detail Design, Mission System Equipment Development, Mission System Design and System Software Development.

Participants included representatives from the U.S. Navy PEO Ships/PMS 500, PEO IWS, Naval Surface Warfare Dahlgren Division and the DDG 1000 industry teammates including Raytheon, Northrop Grumman Ship Systems, Lockheed Martin, BAE Systems and General Dynamics/Bath Iron Works.

The program's DDI IBR was successfully completed for the Navy with key members of the DDG 1000 industry team. The success of the IBR represents a significant program milestone and concluded with the Navy's approval of the $2.7 billion Program Management Baseline. This event was the culmination of several months of collaboration between industry teammates (including Raytheon, Lockheed Martin, BAE Systems, General Dynamics/Bath Iron Works, Northrop Grumman Defense Missions Systems, Boeing and L3) and the Navy assessing the program scope, resources, Integrated Master Schedule and Earned Value Management processes.

Ed Geisler, Raytheon's newly named Vice President and DDG 1000 program manager, said, “The Navy and the DDG 1000 industry team continue to execute flawlessly as we move forward to Mission System Equipment Production Readiness Reviews and completion of the Flight 1 Software.”

Geisler previously served as Raytheon's deputy program manager and technical director during Phase III of the former DD(X) program. His predecessor, Mike Hoeffler, is Raytheon IDS' vice president of Future Naval Capability, overseeing the company's emerging naval programs, including DDG 1000.

Under the Navy's DDG 1000 Detail Design and Integration contract awarded in 2005, Raytheon IDS serves as the prime mission systems equipment integrator for all electronic and combat systems for the DDG 1000 Zumwalt Class Destroyer program.

Integrated Defense Systems is Raytheon's leader in Joint Battlespace Integration providing affordable, integrated solutions to a strong international and domestic customer base, including the U.S. Missile Defense Agency, the U.S. Armed Forces and the Department of Homeland Security.

Raytheon Company, with 2005 sales of $21.9 billion, is an industry leader in defense and government electronics, space, information technology, technical services, and business and special mission aircraft. With headquarters in Waltham, Mass., Raytheon employs 80,000 people worldwide.
