Boeing Company, ST. LOUIS: The Boeing Company recently delivered the first integrated fire control station (IFCS) for the U.S. Army's new Surface-Launched Advanced Medium Range Air-to-Air Missile (SLAMRAAM) ground-to-air weapon system.

Raytheon Integrated Defense Systems is the prime contractor for the new ground-to-air weapon system. The SLAMRAAM system pairs six U.S. Air Force AIM-120 AMRAAMs, built by Raytheon, with a turreted High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV) to provide enhanced capability against hostile aircraft and cruise missiles. Boeing is under contract through 2007 to design and develop the system's IFCS.

“SLAMRAAM is a lethal and versatile air defense system that will extend the range of force protection beyond the current engagement envelope,” said Debra Rub-Zenko, vice president for Boeing Integrated Missile Defense. “We are very pleased to be a member of Team SLAMRAAM bringing this crucial new capability to the warfighter as the Army consolidates air and missile defense capabilities into composite battalions.”

Boeing designs, develops and assembles the SLAMRAAM integrated fire control station in Huntsville, Ala. IFCS provides battle management command, control, computers, communications and intelligence for the system in a HMMWV-mounted shelter.

“The delivery of the IFCS marks a significant milestone in the forward progress of the SLAMRAAM team and demonstrates the commitment and results the team brings to bear to ensure we give our warfighters a reliable air defense system,” said Rick Yuse, Raytheon Integrated Defense Systems, Integrated Air Defense vice president.

Besides providing sophisticated fire control for the lethal SLAMRAAM system, the IFCS can be networked to the U.S. Army's already-fielded Sentinel radar, the Army's future Joint Land Attack Cruise Missile Defense Elevated Netted Sensor system under development by Raytheon, the existing Patriot radar and the Marine Corps' future multi-role Ground/Air Task Oriented radar system to provide truly integrated fire control for the air defense battlespace.

A unit of The Boeing Company, Boeing Integrated Defense Systems is one of the world's largest space and defense businesses. Headquartered in St. Louis, Boeing Integrated Defense Systems is a $30.8 billion business. It provides network-centric system solutions to its global military, government and commercial customers. It is a leading provider of intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance systems; the world's largest military aircraft manufacturer; the world's largest satellite manufacturer; a foremost developer of advanced concepts and technologies; a leading provider of space-based communications; the primary systems integrator for U.S. missile defense; NASA's largest contractor; and a global leader in sustainment solutions and launch services.
