SOUTHWEST ASIA: Coalition airpower integrated with coalition ground forces in Iraq and the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan during operations Nov. 17, according to Combined Air and Space Operations Center officials here.
In Afghanistan, Air Force F-15E Strike Eagles fired cannon rounds against enemy combatants, located west of Kandahar, who were in hostile contact against coalition forces. Additionally, this same aircrew conducted shows of force with flares to deter further enemy activities. The on-scene joint terminal attack controller confirmed both missions as successful.
During the same mission, a Royal Air Force Harrier GR-7 aided the strike by using rockets against the enemy combatants. The JTAC confirmed the desired effect was achieved and deemed the mission as successful.
An Air Force MQ-9A Reaper also aided the strike in the same mission by firing hellfire missiles against the enemy combatants. The missiles hit the intended targets and the mission was reported as a success by the JTAC.
In Sangin, enemy firing positions were struck with a guided bomb unit-38 dropped from an F-15E. The JTAC confirmed the mission as successful.

An Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt II released flares in shows of force to deter enemy activities in Musa Qala. The JTAC assessed the mission as successful.
A French Mirage 2000 conducted shows of force to deter enemy activities west of Nowzad. The mission was deemed as successful by the JTAC.
In total, 34 close-air-support missions were flown in support of the ISAF and Afghan security forces, reconstruction activities and route patrols.
Nine Air Force and RAF surveillance and reconnaissance aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan.
In Iraq, a RAF Tornado GR-4 released flares in shows of force to deter enemy activities in Al Kut. The mission also supported a coalition convoy movement in the area. The JTAC assessed the mission as successful.
In total, coalition aircraft flew 48 close-air-support missions for Operation Iraqi Freedom. These missions supported coalition ground forces, protected key infrastructure, provided over watch for reconstruction activities and helped to deter and disrupt terrorist activities.
Twenty-seven Air Force, Navy, and RAF surveillance and reconnaissance aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq. Additionally, three Air Force and RAF aircraft performed tactical reconnaissance.
Air Force C-130 Hercules and C-17 Globemaster IIIs provided intratheater heavy airlift support, helping to sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa.
Approximately 148 airlift sorties were flown; 419 tons of cargos were delivered, and 4,199 passengers were transported. This included approximately 18,000 pounds of troop re-supply air-dropped in Afghanistan.
Coalition C-130 crews from Australia, Canada, and Iraq flew in support of operations in Afghanistan or Iraq.
On Nov. 16, Air Force and RAF aerial refueling crews flew 38 sorties and off-loaded approximately 2.5 million pounds of fuel to 204 receiving aircraft.
