US Air Force, WASHINGTON D.C.: Twenty-one MQ-1 unmanned aircraft, associated support equipment and manpower transferred from Air Combat Command to Air Force Special Operations Command at the end of May.
An additional seven aircraft are projected to be delivered to AFSOC upon completion of depot maintenance later this month at Nellis Air Force Base, bringing the total to 28 aircraft. That equates to six combat air patrols now controlled and operated by Air Force Special Operations Command, according to a memorandum signed by Chief of Staff of the Air Force Gen. T. Michael Moseley March 5, 2006.
The move demonstrates the commitment by Gen. Moseley to provide the best support to combatant commanders engaged in the Global War on Terror, deliver sovereign options, and meet the demand for global military power throughout the complex and dynamic security environment.
