Thales,

EUROSATORY, France: Thales and Saab have agreed to combine their know-how and experience to design the instrumentation for the future GTIA (Groupement Tactique Inter-Armes ) joint battle group facility at the French Army’s CENZUB (Centre d’entraînement aux actions en zone urbaine) urban combat training complex in Sissonne, northern France.

Thales and Saab competed against each other for a contract as part of the CENZUB definition phase in 2004, awarded by the French defence procurement agency (DGA). Today, the two companies have combined their vision of the technical, industrial, instructional and logistical aspects of the project for the next preparatory phases of the instrumented CENZUB complex.

Thales has gained recognition in this field with the success of its CENTAURE system, which provides complete instrumentation for the French Army’s open terrain combat training centre.

The company has vast experience and is uniquely placed to understand the operational requirement and tailor solutions for the CENZUB complex, particularly since the CENTAURE and CENZUB systems share the same deployment principles and training objectives.

Saab provides world-leading systems and services for military training in urban environment. The company offers a complete range of live training products, which supplements Thales capabilities regarding training.

Chris Gane, Thales VP Tranining & Simulation said: “this partnership, which combines both Thales’ and SAAB’s competences, positions us as leaders in urban combat training solutions due to an innovative and diversified offer.”

Thales is a leading international electronics and systems group, addressing defence, aerospace and security markets worldwide. Thales's leading-edge technology is supported by 22,000 R&D engineers who offer a capability unmatched in Europe to develop and deploy field-proven mission-critical information systems. Thales employs 68,000 people in 50 countries with 2007 revenues of EUR 12.3 billion.
