FlightSafety International is pleased to announce the certification of a new TH-1H Weapon System Trainer by the United States Air Force.
This is the second WST delivered to Warrior Hall in Ft. Rucker, Alabama by FlightSafety and certified by the USAF since December 2008. The Air Force began training immediately after each certification.
The UH-1H, commonly called a Huey, has provided United States Air Force Specialized Undergraduate Pilot Training – Helicopter (SUPT-H) for over 30 years. The TH-1H transforms the Vietnam Era UH-1H into a modernized training platform that brings helicopter pilot training into the 21st Century.
The TH-1H features modernized avionics including a three-display glass cockpit. Students graduating from the TH-1H will go on to train and fly in the CV-22, HH-60G, and other aircraft. FlightSafety is also the manufacturer of the USAF CV-22 WSTs located at Kirtland AFB and Hulbert Field where they are used for Special Ops training.
These new WSTs meet and exceed requirements of civil trainers developed to FAA Level D standards in aerodynamic, power plant, and systems fidelity. The simulators feature FlightSafety’s electric motion and control loading systems and the latest Vital X visual systems with a 200 degree by 60 degree display.
“We are proud to serve and support the Air Force with these new advanced technology simulators that will be used in the critical rotary wing training programs at Fort Rucker,” said Ralph Hicks, Manager, FlightSafety Daleville Learning Center.
The simulators are owned, operated, and maintained by FlightSafety International as part of the Flight School XXI Team. The Flight School XXI team, made of U.S. companies, is led by Computer Sciences Corporation, the prime contractor, FlightSafety International and Link Simulation and Training.
The TH-1H flight training devices join 20 TH-67 simulators, provided and maintained by FlightSafety, and eight UH-60 simulators provided by FlightSafety to Link Simulation and Training and in turn to the Flight School XXI operation at Ft. Rucker.
FlightSafety has a long history of producing military and commercial helicopter simulators. FlightSafety produced the world’s first helicopter training simulator to use a real-time blade element aerodynamic model over 20 years ago. Since then, the company has produced over 50 rotor-wing simulators.
