L-3 Communications , TORONTO: L-3 Communications Canada Inc. announced today that SPAR Aerospace Limited will formally lead L-3 AMS (Air Mobility Systems) to develop and deliver fleet management solutions for Canada's air mobility platforms. L-3 AMS will operate as a separate business unit within SPAR.

L-3 AMS was created as a contractual joint venture to bring together the resources and expertise of a number of Canadian and U.S.-based L-3 Communications divisions with significant breadth and depth in the area of managing air mobility platforms.

The Government of Canada has recently embarked on a major multi-billion dollar acquisition program to upgrade its air mobility capabilities in order to strengthen its ability to move people, equipment and supplies to respond to natural disasters and in a theatre of war.

“The Canadian Defence landscape is clearly changing and we are configuring ourselves to respond,” said Anthony Caputo, president, chief operating officer and corporate vice president of L-3 Canada. “L-3 SPAR will take the lead for Air Mobility support.”

“L-3 MAS continues as a leading provider of support services for fighters, UAV's and the Maritime Helicopter Project (MHP) and L-3 Electronic Systems continues as a leading provider for avionics systems.”

“SPAR has more than 45 years of transport aircraft expertise,” said Patrice Pelletier, president of L-3 SPAR Aerospace. “The combined SPAR and L-3 AMS entities will deliver creative and quality fleet management solutions for Canada's current and future air mobility requirements. This is a win-win for Canada and SPAR's 700 Edmonton employees.”

A division of New York City-based L-3 Communications, SPAR Aerospace is one of Canada's leading aerospace companies and is a Lockheed Martin approved C-130 Hercules aircraft service centre – the only one in North America outside of Lockheed Martin itself. SPAR's corporate headquarters are located in Edmonton, Alberta, with additional locations in Trenton, Ontario; Mississauga, Ontario and Venice, Italy. With more than 800 employees across Canada, SPAR is a globally competitive market leader of MRO and Aircraft Life Extension Solutions for air mobility platforms. SPAR serves customers from Canada, the United States, Europe, South America, Asia Pacific, Africa and the Middle East.

Headquartered in New York City, L-3 Communications is a leading provider of Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) systems, secure communications systems, aircraft modernization, training and government services.
