Rockwell Collins, CEDAR RAPIDS: Rockwell Collins has been selected to participate in the assessment phase of the Land Environment Air Picture Provision (LEAPP) program.

Rockwell Collins, a member of the Lockheed Martin-led Team Athena, has been selected to provide a broadband, ground networked communications capability for the assessment phase of the LEAPP program utilizing the fully Software Communications Architecture (SCA 2.2)-compliant, FlexNet-Four software defined radio (SDR).

LEAPP will provide a near real-time correlated air picture for the Land Component worldwide, either alone or as an element of Integrated Air Defense, to enable a graduated and enduring contribution to the Network Enhanced Capability community in national and multinational operations.

“Rockwell Collins' substantial experience in software defined radio technology will be brought to bear in this first significant networked SCA-compliant SDR system for the U.K. MoD,” said Bruce King, vice president and general manager of Communication Systems for Rockwell Collins. “The high data rate and networking capabilities of our solution increases the level of critical real time information that can be exchanged between users.”

The assessment phase contract is valued at approximately $1.8 million to Rockwell Collins. The program has a potential value of $12 million to the company. The system will be demonstrated to the U.K. MoD in February 2007.

The FlexNet-Four versatile multi-channel communications system was developed by Rockwell Collins for the Sweden Tactical Data Radio System (TDRS) program. As part of a recent agreement with Thales, the system also supports the FlexNet-Waveform for high data rate ad-hoc networked communications and the PR4G and PR4G Combat Net Radio waveforms and multimedia services.

Rockwell Collins is a pioneer in the development and deployment of innovative communication and aviation electronics solutions for both commercial and government applications. Our expertise in flight deck avionics, cabin electronics, mission communications and information management is strengthened by 17,000 employees, and a global service and support network that crosses 27 countries.
