Radio Free Europe, Polish President Lech Kaczynski said in Warsaw today that Polish troops will leave Iraq in 2007 or even late this year.
According to a Polish radio report, Kaczynski made the comment during a meeting with the wives and mothers of Polish soldiers currently stationed in Iraq, a day ahead of March 8 international women's day.
The Polish head of state also thanked the 212 Polish women who have served in Iraq since Poland began its mission there in 2003.
Poland was a strong supporter of the U.S.-led 2003 invasion and occupation of Iraq.
After the war, Poland was granted command of a multinational military stabilization force in south-central Iraq.
Approving the extension of the Polish mission in Iraq to the end of this year was among Kaczynski's first acts as president after taking office in late December 2005.
