Nexter / GIAT, Nexter Munitions has just received an export order for the supply of LU 211 HE shells and modular charges for 155 mm 52 calibre gun.

This new contract brings current production orders for the LU 211 HE to more than 30 000 shells, most of which are to be charged with XF insensitive explosive (LU 211 HE IM).

The filling mixture ” XF” provides to the LU 211 HE IM the highest level of insensitivity against battlefield agressions as for example fragments impacts, bullet impacts and the LU 211 HE IM is the sole 155 artillery shell not to react to the RPG 7 shaped charge attack.

The LU211 modular explosive shell provides a long-range fire capability. It engages targets at a range of 40 km with 155 mm / 52 calibre guns meeting the requirements of JB MoU standards. Its terminal effect (blast and fragmentation) is more than twice that of conventional 155 mm HE shells, irrespective of angle of impact or burst height.

The LU211 HE is of modular design, so that two possibilities of range are provided by a single shell: the HB (Hollow Base) version, when the shell is equipped with hollow base kit, and which can easily be transformed on the field, into a BB (Base Bleed) version i.e. extended range version, by replacing the HB kit by the BB kit.
