Northrop Grumman,

PASCAGOULA, Miss: The U.S. Navy today awarded Northrop Grumman Corporation a $191 million contract modification for procurement of long-lead time material and production readiness for activities leading to the construction of the first Zumwalt-class destroyer, DDG 1000.

“This is a contract modification that allows significant work to continue on the DDG 1000 program,” said Brian Cuccias, Northrop Grumman vice president of DDG 1000. “The award is an important step toward ship construction.”

The contract modification provides new funding to a previously announced contract. Funds will be used to procure common class equipment and commodities such as steel plates, pipe, cable and other major equipment.

DDG 1000 is the first in a class of the U.S. Navy's multi-mission surface combatants tailored for the littoral, air and sub-surface warfare. It will operate as part of a joint maritime fleet, assisting Marine strike forces ashore. DDG 1000's affordable and flexible design, unmatched stealth and precision volume strike make this ship an important asset to the U.S. warfighter.

The DDG 1000 class ship displaces approximately 14,564 tons, is 600 feet long, has a beam of 80.7 feet, a navigational draft of 27.6 feet and a ship's crew of 142, including the aviation detachment.

Work will be performed at Northrop Grumman Ship Systems sector's Pascagoula, Miss. and Gulfport, Miss. facilities.

Northrop Grumman Corporation is a $30 billion global defense and technology company whose 122,000 employees provide innovative systems, products, and solutions in information and services, electronics, aerospace and shipbuilding to government and commercial customers worldwide.
