Kongsberg Gruppen, On Wednesday, 5 April 2006, the first of a total of five frigates, the Fridtjof Nansen, was delivered to the Royal Norwegian Navy. Kongsberg took part in the celebrations.
“This marks a milestone and is a big day for us”, smiles Frank Tidemann, head of the frigate project at Kongsberg.
The frigate contract was signed in 2000. After six years, the leviathan project is nearing completion. The KNM Fridtjof Nansen is the first of five vessels in its class. The next frigate, the KNM Roald Amundsen, will be delivered towards year end. Later, the KNM Otto Sverdrup, the KNM Thor Heyerdahl and the KNM Helge Ingstad will be delivered one after the other until 2009.
