Coalition-SV howitzers are expected in line units, in the 1st Guards Tank Army before the end of this year. Meanwhile 2S19M2 deliveries are continuing. It appears that the Msta-SM (M2) is in production, not just upgrades of existing units. However, given the rate they're forming new units at, I have to wonder if production can even keep up with that, never-mind actually phase out the older 2S3s.

Some news. Divisions are continuing to be formed, not so much in replacement of brigades but in addition to. The newest one will be in Rostov region, a Motor-Rifle division. It was referred to as "full-blooded" with 10 000 men. What this means in practice is unclear, up to this point most divisions have been of a two-regiment format, unlike the larger Soviet era divisions.

Meanwhile a new APC have been unveiled. The BTR-87 is related to the BTR-80 but only loosely, sharing some commonality, the hull is new, and the layout completely different with a front engine and a rear troop hatch. The combat module is the same as the BTR-82A, which is a little strange since more sophisticated options are available. Then again, it's intended for export, so what format (if any) it sees production in, remains to be seen.

The Russian Ministry of Defense and military hardware manufacturer Uralvagonzavod (UVZ) have signed the first contract for 100 T-14 Armata tanks. The pilot batch will undergo testing in battlefield runs, Russia's deputy defense minister said on Tuesday.

Old news. And it's a mixed contract for T-14 tanks and T-15 IFVs. Presumably for ~124 vehicles total, 2 btlns of each. But it's unclear at this point.

They're probably meant for experimental exploitation.

As for numbers, a tank btln in a Tank bde is still 31 tanks, in Motor-Rifles they were increased to 41 tanks. Motor-rifles btlns are 3 line companies, plus an HQ element. Something like 32-35 armored transports. 100 would equal ~3 btlns but iirc the news were't "exactly 100 ordered" they were "around a hundred". Since it makes little sense to order 2 btlns of one and 1 btln of the other, I suspect the real numbers are around ~120-130, and it's 4 btlns, 2 of each. Normally one btln set is enough for experimental exploitation (state trials have already begun with the LRIP vehicles that were delivered prior to this contract), so it's also possible that the order includes two btlns (41 tanks, 35 IFVs), plus an ARV company. Honestly though I'm not sure. It's even possible that they've ordered 3 tank 1 IFV or the reverse, and are going to re-equip an entire brigade at once, and run experimental exploitation that way. I think we will have to wait and see, and we might not even get to see.

Case in point, the 2S35 Coalition-SV howitzer is currently undergoing state trials and experimental exploitation, one near Yekaterinburg, and one near Moscow, but which is which, and how many total units there are is completely unclear. The only way we know is because parade boxes showed up on May 9th of this year in both towns.

MP battalion landed in Syria
“At the present time, the division has marched from the Hmeymim air base to the city of Aleppo to perform duties as part of the Russian Center for Reconciliation in the Syrian Arab Republic,” Defense Ministry officials told the Interfax news agency, which reports that Russian forces are expected to assist local police in restoring law and order to Aleppo. The military police battalion will also provide security to soldiers, land-mine-removal experts, medical staff, and humanitarian convoys in the area. Moscow stresses that the Russian battalion being deployed consists exclusively of professional soldiers, meaning there are no draftees on the mission.
Good luck, so they all come back home in 1 piece! This is also good training in case they need to go elsewhere! Before, there was no MP in the Soviet/RF army, only the MVD troops (Internal Ministry Forces), now the National Guard, that weren't part of the regular army.

Any news on proposed numbers for the initial batches?

The number of BMP-2s they need to replace is huge. I tend to think that their IFV replacement program is more important than their MBT replacement program.

Unfortunately no. Now IFVs in tank bdes and regiments will get replaced likely with the T-15 heavy IFV. So that should cut numbers down at least a little. Right now it appears that the Kurganets isn't even in state trials. Factory trials with state trials to start in 2017. With a reasonable completion date in 2018, we can expect serial deliveries in 2019 which matches statements we've gotten so far about expected in service dates for the type.

Personally I would expect a single btln for experimental exploitation to be handed over the first year, with increasing deliveries from there.

Thank you.

Getting some T-15s into line tank units will, as you say, take of some of the pressure.

There's a big mystery about the first Armata contract. Allegedly it was for 100 vehicles but with no breakdown by type, so it's not clear whether it's all MBTs or a mix of MBTs and IFVs, possibly even some ARVs. Allegedly it's for ~100 vehicles which could be a tank regiment or brigade (94 tanks). Or it could be some sort of weird mix. It's also not clear what they're planning on doing with the 20 T-14 MBTs that they've already received.

Some interesting footage of small unmanned ground vehicles working out integration with Russian Motor-Rifles units at the squad and platoon level. We may see small unmanned platforms integrated organically into line units within the next 5 years. Currently they're only used for security formations for nuclear subs who use the Platforma-M and for RVSN guard detachments who use them together with the BPDM Tayfun APCs.

1) wrong thread.
2) they have less then a hundred MiG-29s (the only lightweight in the VVS) left, not that hard to replace
