In response to Sabre: i belevie that yes the forum should be devided into respective regions, so that forum members can contribute local knowledge and ideas regarding their regions

Sabre, this is a very smart idea!

what do you all think

Why should it be divided into regions?

I bet that this is going to result in flame wars all the time.

And the forum is not going to be more handy. You get a whole lot of new forums with all the different regions divided into air/sea/land/...

And it is totally against the idea of a multinational forum.

If one wants a forum dedicated to its own sepcial region he can just join a regional forum...

I am not suggesting that the forum be devided

what i am putting forward is that the forum should have regions in which members who have local firsthand credible information can contribute more accurately to the respective region.

this information will then be accessable to all members when collecting data for their own contributions. the reports can now be verified by members who have first hand information

over to you Waylander

I know what you mean.

Nevertheless how isa it different to now?

I never experienced here that a topic which is located in a special region of this nice earth isn't frequently visited by the members from this.

If it is about Europe our european members are adding their perspective, the same goes for Aussies, Americans, Chinese, Indians, Pakistani and all the other guys we have here.

If we divide the forum into special regions this more likely going to decline than to improve due to some members staying in their respective region.

May I ask if you can give me an example were a topic about a special region was opened and our members from this area haven't contributed to it?

Hi Folks,

I just want to get a general idea on these three items, would really appreciate if you can take some time to answer:

  1. How did you found about Defence Talk?
  2. Your first impression?
  3. Thoughts on promoting the site?
I could put up a pop up survey script but that is just annoying and I don't like it and for the same reason I think DT visitors and members won't either.

Thanks, enjoy!
New to Defence talk. Any reason for spelling defense wrong?

They invented the language. They can do what ever they want with the spellings of the words :D

Defence talk is generally nice forum, but environment of defence talk is not very much conducive ,it need lot of modification in rules and regulation and criteria of selection of moderators.
Moderators shall be selected on basis of specialisation in forum thread not on basis of no of posts.:)

Moderators are not selected on the basis of number of posts but on their capability, knowledge, credibility as well as specialization. Almost all mods are related to military fields one way or another.

Can you point out exactly where we need modifications in the rules? Our rules are mostly agreed upon by all senior members & the very same rules have brought the prestige we cherish so much to this forum.

There should be no discremination between civilian or miltery personals and usefull econimics, scientific, political and religious posts should be allowed for discussion to generate impression that this forum is not limited to only defence related post.

But it is limited to only defence related issues, as the sites name suggests. & we prefer to stick by it.

Religions are too sensitive for discussions. Economic, scientific & political discussions are legal here only if they are related to Defence otherwise members can go to our sister site the 'World Affairs Talk': http://www.worldaffairstalk.com/forums/

I've heard it said in Europe "Q. How do you know when the tourists are British? A. They're the only ones who can't speak english.":rolling Sorry, I read that in a running commentary of the Brits in Europe one day.

OK, I've been a member of Defense talk for at least a little while now. I joined because I enjoy military discussions on military topics. I have just about stopped visiting as I find the format of threads upon threads very cumbersome. If I want to receive a notice that there has been activity on the thread, I have to visit the site every day. If I do receive a notice it doesn't tell what the comment is (as some other very good sites do). I have to search for whatever comment was made and it normally doesn't pertain to me. I would like to see a running commentary of a particulair issue, where I can see it from beginning to end. OK, confused? A site I enjoy and visit often is "ROK drop". Its a US military in Korea site that deals with issues in that region. I like the format, find it very easy to navigate and am notified with any additional comments made in their entirety.:lul I know I am being critical of this site, but you did ask, and I did want to give my honest opinion. I would more than welcome an easier to navigate site.

You can subscribe to a thread (Thread Tools) and get notice of every single new post via email... and it contains the post text.

Or at least it does for the 455 threads i've subscribed to at the moment. ;)

:D

That reminds of something that Russel Peters once said for an Englishman.

Anyways; Funny as it is ... I hope you don't offend our British friends here.

Never my intent to offend anyone, you need not worry. I have visited the British isles and I have British friends (and neighbors) where I live as well. They seem to love Florida this time of year. ( and we both like our guiness).;)
