Lockheed Martin to Pursue Canadian Navy Frigate Modernization Program

Lockheed Martin, OTTAWA: Lockheed Martin today announced its intention to pursue the mid-life modernization program of the Canadian Patrol Frigate (CPF) as prime contractor for the Canadian Navy. 
 
Making the announcement at the annual CANSEC trade show in Ottawa, Lockheed Martin's team will include SAAB, IBM Canada, xwave and CAE Professional Services. 
 
The multi-phase Halifax Class Modernization Program (HCM) will provide upgraded command and control systems, radars, tactical data links, electronic support measures, and other electronic warfare capabilities. The program also requires the successful team to maintain the current command and control systems until all 12 ships have been retrofitted. The program is expected to be tendered later this year. 
 
“Through our role as the systems integrator for the CPF, we are intimately familiar with the ship's concept of operations, its intricacies and the needs of the Canadian Navy to ensure fleet availability,” said Martin Munro, general manager of Lockheed Martin Canada. “With our team's expertise, we will bring forward a proven package of systems and sensors that will serve the Navy in all missions both domestic and abroad.” 
 
Lockheed Martin has been a key supplier to the Canadian Navy for more than 25 years as the original equipment manufacturer for the combat systems onboard the CPF. The company continues to provide in-service support, including software integration and development. Lockheed Martin hosts the Navy's combat systems integration lab at its facility in Montreal and maintains teams in Esquimalt, BC, and Halifax, NS, to provide support to the combat systems and maintenance procedural trainers. 
 
For team training, Lockheed Martin developed the Operations Room Team Trainer (ORTT), providing the Navy with a synthetic CPF simulator on which entire Operations and Bridge Room crews can train prior to ship deployment.
