General Dynamics,

FAIRFAX, Va: General Dynamics Information Technology, a business unit of General Dynamics, has been awarded a task order to modernize the telephone switch systems for Naval Air Station Jacksonville, Fla.; Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay, Ga.; and Naval Station Mayport, Fla. The award, from the U.S. Navy's Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command (SPAWAR), is valued at $10 million. Work is expected to be completed in early 2009.

Under the task order, General Dynamics will upgrade the existing switch systems with the latest Approved Products List (APL)-certified software and replace non-supportable elements within the voice network. General Dynamics will also install Voice-over-Internet-Protocol (VoIP) for 5,000 users in the Jacksonville area.

“This major telecommunications upgrade will provide the Navy with increased functionality while minimizing risk to the ongoing mission of these facilities,” said Ken Slaght, vice president and general manager of Maritime Systems for General Dynamics Information Technology. “General Dynamics is pleased to continue our long-standing partnership with SPAWAR and the U.S. Navy in Jacksonville.”

The task order was awarded under the Network-Centric Solutions (NETCENTS) indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity (ID/IQ) contract. General Dynamics is a leading NETCENTS voice- and converged-solutions integrator with extensive modernization experience — installing over 20,000 VoIP lines and delivering the next generation enterprise class switching platform. General Dynamics has completed more than 500 switch and software upgrades and replacements at nearly 400 locations for switching systems that support more than 1.5 million voice lines.

NETCENTS provides the Air Force, Department of Defense (DoD) and other federal agencies a primary source of networking equipment/product supply and a means of system engineering, installation, integration, operations and maintenance for a family of DoD adopted commercially standardized networking solutions that are interoperable with Air Force, Joint and DoD Standardized Networking Technical Architectures.
