EADS, ANKARA, Trukey: Following its longterm partnership strategy, EADS is joining forces with Turkish industries aiming at close cooperation in the field of defence technology. As announced by EADS during the International Defence Exhibition IDEF at Ankara, EADS Defence Electronics has signed a cooperation agreement with the leading Turkish company Aselsan on Friday.

Aselsan will deliver core components of the most modern infrared missile warning system MIRAS of the A400M transport aircraft which will be integrated by EADS Defence Eelctronics. Beginning of September EADS Defence Electronics has been awarded a contract to deliver its newly developed multicolour infrared missile warner MIRAS (Multi-colour InfraRed Alerting Sensor).

This is the first missile warning system worldwide applying simultaneous, single-chip multi-color infrared detection technology which offers an unprecedented combination of detection probability, detection range and low false alarm rates. In this technology, EADS Defence Electronics has a worldwide leading role. Turkey is a major partner in the A400M programme with 10 aircraft on order.

“The co-operation with Aselsan on MIRAS enhances our already existing close relations”, explained Bernhard Gerwert, CEO and President of EADS Defence Electronics. “It clearly shows that we are really interested in a longterm partnership which includes unrestricted technology exchange to create a maximum of advantages for both sides”.

EADS Defence Electronics (DE) already has a close cooperation with the Aselsan, which is producing the EADS missile warning system MILDS. More than 1,000 units of this successful EADS product are on order to equip the Turkish forces' helicopters and transport aircraft.

EADS Defence Electronics is the Electronic Warfare House of EADS with considerable experience in the field of electronic warfare and, in particular, the electronic self-protection of aircraft, ships and ground vehicles. Amongst other EW programmes, DE is responsible for the self-protection systems of the A400M as well as the NH90 and Tiger helicopters and is a main partner in the EuroDASS consortium producing the Eurofighter self-protection system.

DE is an integrated part of the Defence & Security Systems (DS) Division. DS, with revenues of about EUR 5.4 billion in 2004 and roughly 23,000 employees across ten nations, forms the defence and security pillar within EADS. It offers integrated systems solutions to the new challenges confronting armed forces and homeland security units. It is active in the areas of military aircraft, missile systems, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) systems with manned and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), battlefield management systems, defence electronics, sensors and avionics, and related services.

EADS is a global leader in aerospace, defence and related services. In 2004, EADS generated revenues of EUR 31.8 billion and employed a workforce of about 110,000.
