It’s emerged that the conflict in Libya has been costing the UK one and a half million pounds every day.

The UK involvement in the NATO operation is now into its sixth month, at an estimated cost of two hundred and sixty million pounds.

The Government says the costs of Libya have not affected any other public spending, but not everyone is convinced it is value for money.

Meanwhile, David Cameron says the NATO operation in Libya will continue for as long as it is needed. The Prime Minister made the comment after a conference in Paris, at which more than sixty countries discussed rebuilding the stricken nation, with members of Libya’s National Transitional Council.

The NTC has given assurances that the country will have a new constitution and democratic elections within eighteen months

Mr Cameron says the summit also agreed to bring to justice those guilty of war crimes.

A second audio message of Colonel Gaddafi has been played out on a television channel in Syria. In it, the ex-Libyan leader called for a lengthy guerilla war against forces opposed to him – saying, “If Libya burns, then let it be”.

His whereabouts are still unknown.
