Warsaw-based EADS PZL Warszawa-Okęcie, now branded Airbus Military, has officially opened a new MRO Service Centre dedicated to the repair and servicing of Airbus Military C295 aircraft. This is Airbus Military’s second service centre in Europe, adding to the capabilities of its centre in Seville, Spain. The newly opened facility will perform the full scope of repair and service work for C295 airlifters operated by the Polish Air Force and other operators and potential clients in Europe and worldwide.

The manufacturer EADS PZL Warszawa-Okęcie, now Airbus Military, has been granted a certificate to service Airbus Military C295 airlifters and the staff has been trained at the Airbus Military plant in Seville. The Service Centre employs about 30 people. Within Airbus Military´s Warsaw facilities a special hangar has been adapted and equipped to house the new centre.

“The inauguration of a service centre at Warsaw facilities of Airbus Military is an important milestone in Airbus Military’s activity in Poland and shows its commitment to the Polish market”, said Francisco Javier Diaz Gil, President and Managing Director of EADS PZL Warszawa-Okęcie S.A. “This development is a token of recognition for the accomplishments of the Polish aerospace industry as well as for Polish know-how and the skilled workforce”, added Diaz Gil.

The opening ceremony was attended by representatives of Ministry of Economy, Ministry of National Defense and representatives of Polish Air Force.

The Polish branch of Airbus Military is a major supplier of subassemblies for the CN235 and C295 programmes. In particular it produces the outer wings for the Airbus Military C295 as well as the cargo doors, the ramp and the doors for the pilot, paratroopers and passengers on the CN235 and C295. This workshare has been recently increased with the assembly of the nose section for those aircraft, making the company the largest supplier to these programmes. The Polish Air Force has 11 Airbus Military C295s in service for transport and logistics missions.

PZL Warszawa Okecie, was acquired by Airbus Military (then EADS CASA) in 2001. It has two sites, Warsaw and Mielec, employing over 500 people. The industrial activities range from the design and manufacturing of light trainer aircraft to the manufacturing of subassemblies for the Airbus Military CN235 and C295, and wiring harnesses for several commercial Airbus types. The Mielec division is dedicated to agro-services, and maintenance including the C295.
