Thales, The Sultanate of Oman has awarded Thales subsidiary TDA Armements SAS a contract for the supply of a fire support system based on its 120mm 2R2M (Recoiling Rifled Mounted Mortar) mounted on upgraded VAB already operated in Oman.

Such combination, qualified by the French MoD, will take benefit of the experience of TDA as prime contractor and system integrator on various vehicles as VAB, M113, Piranha…. Completed by a command and control system – firing management communications, target acquisition and intercom – this agreement will provide the customer with a powerful and efficient close combat capability, with easy operation and fast deployment.

The contract includes a comprehensive logistic support supply with training, documentation, spares and accessories.

The selection of this system by the Sultanate of Oman confirms the superiority of the rifled technology for the 120 mm mortars, recently chosen by the US Marine Corps, which delivers an unmatched precision, efficiency and range (superior to 12,5 km).
