This morning enthusiast put this video shown KRI Sriwijaya still anchoring in Jakarta bay after leaving it's berth in Tanjung Priok Harbour. The carrier not leaving yet to new destination whether it's new home at Lampung Bay or to Surabaya (potentially begin it's refurbishment at PAL).

Indication that Fincantieri and PAL will begin the modification and refurbishment soon. As Navy Chief indicating new communication, sensors and electronics upgrade need to conducted soon so the Carrier can integrate with the rest of TNI-AL fleet.

Fincantieri have other cheaper options than the FCX30 which exist as paper design. The PPX (OPV) or Vivaldi class is in production and fall within the simple/plain corvette to OPV corvette type.

Ah yes, that one.
Circulating online on sea trial of the first PPX/OPV Vivaldi class.

A nice design and capable enough. But i think it will be more expensive than the indigenous designs, too expensive for a order of 19 pieces.

PPX/OPV being offer to Malaysia, however from what I gather Fincantieri did not offer it to Indonesia due the availability of local design (KRI Bung Hatta and KRI Haji Fisabillilah class) for Plain and OPV Corvette range.

Thus seems Fincantieri see the opening is for the need of more sophisticate class of Corvette - Light Frigate range.

Seems MBDA want to offer what already proven. However the contract can be modified for SM40, when the later missile already proven enough operationally. This is concervative approach to make sure that what ever happen on the progress with new build missile, the customer still have Sub Launch SSM ready in inventory.

we should go straight to the SM-40 due to the much superior range
This is the offer from MBDA as potentially they are not sure SM-40 will be available to the market already by 2031/32, when 1st TNI-AL Scorpene EVO schedule to be operational.

I believe TNI-AL in media already talk about SM-40. Which's why MBDA also talk that TNI-AL can get both SM-39 Mod2 and SM-40 later on. I suspect it is also related to pricing strategy package.

Any display on weapons system and support, being shown at TNI-Fair in Monas. Last year the equipment in TNI Fair also being shown at TNI Day Aniversary. This year the ceremony is much smaller. Reasoning:
  1. TNI Personel being send to handle forest and plantation fires in Kalimantan and Sumatra,
  2. Last year is special event as 80th aniversary.
I sense with much natural disaster, the government not want to have big extravaganza ceremony, as part of retrain. Besides last year crowd control management under performed much. They need to learn better on managing crowd during big ceremonies involving publics.

MBDA Chief told media that Indonesia already in active negotiation and already in active list of potential user by MBDA for Aster 30.

He also claim that Indonesia already negotiate Aster 30 with MBDA since 10 years ago. From what I heard this for land base and Naval base Aster 30 for Arrowhead 140 FMP. However Turkiye Roketsan that got the deal for both land base Siper base Trisula and Naval base FMP.

Since PPA using Sylver VLS then Indonesia has to use Aster 30. However from what I gather the SSM choice still can be MBDA Exocet Blk 3 or Roketsan Atmaca. This is what being implied by TNI-AL chief.

MCM USV that being design to be use with Abekin-Rasmusen build 2 MCMV for TNI-AL already contracted and will begin production run. 2 MCM USV will be mated to each MCMV, make it 4 total system on the contract.

From enthusiat id Markicap, shown video of 2 VIP HS225 landing on board KRI Sriwijaya. Those are piloted by TNI-AU pilots, thus shown MinDef intentions for that carrier to be use by multi arms helicopter forces.

edit: turn out they are both HS225.

What is better choices for interim submarine ? (remember interim submarines must be already in service or already in production line):
  1. KSS1 (Jang Bogo) class (Type 209),
  2. 039A/B Class,
  3. Oyashio class.
3 submarine for interim, adding to existing 3 DSME 209 in inventory. ROK and Japan from rumours offer the last 3 of each classes, thus boats build in early 2000. Not clear yet on China offer.

My opinion? The Chang Bogo class.
It's already in use and thus familiar. Cuts down on training and adaptation time.
Since they're only slightly different with the current submarines, the spare parts are mostly the same. Which means better commonality and the ability to use the older submarines as spare part sources down in the future.

If they choose Jang Bogo or Chang Bogo (depends on pronounciation) as interim submarine, perhaps it is as compensation for DSME 209 2nd batch contract. Yes it is straight forward commonalities, but personally I'm going to watch Japan offer on upgrading Oyashio.

As for Type 039 A/B, frankly speaking I see more potential getting J-10 then Chinese Submarine or Frigates as interim assets.

Depends on the consideration? If it is politics, I doubt Jang Bogo or Chang Bogo will be selected, given the baggage it has. Also whether politics demands to have a Eastern choice (China or Japan) and how powerful is their respective lobbies. If not, the U212A is also on the table by European/Italians with pathway to NFS.

From what I gather, 12 Submarine still in target. 3 DSME 1400 and 2+2 Scorpene building, still left 5 submarine gap. This is where all the suppliers try to capitalise. Rumours talk of 3 from Asia and 2 from Euro zone as interim submarine. Price to acquire and upgrade, plus timing availability will be main factor.

All suppliers aim to provide interim submarine as also gaining point for more advance submarine later on. So let's see whose going to fit all.

Add:
There's one other rumour that I heard on propulsion preference for submarine. TNI-AL shown preference on full batteries without AIP. If this stay then KSS1 209 or Oyashio has more chances to be interim submarine then Type 039 A/B and U212A that have AIP.

Then again MinDef over rule TNI-AL CODAD propulsion preference when they take CODAG PPA and potentially Istif. So who knows.

Please tell me that the museum piece is about ready to be pensioned off.

It literally turned 60 this year.

The Type 12 definitely has a distinctive appearance with that raised bow though!
